I read the short story “When I lay My Burden Down” by Maya Angelou. It was an ok story if you like that old time country stuff but to me it wasn’t good. There’s no action in the whole story no fighting or killing. The whole story is just dead from the first sentence to the last. I think that it a story for a girl because that’s all that is in the story.
I would never read this story again because it was a waist of time I should have picked another one. I definitely wouldn’t recommend this story for any one to read.
It wasn’t the type of story that I like to read so the story never really caught my attention. I think it wasn’t one of Maya Angelou’s best stories she could have did better.

I think the author’s purpose for righting this story was to tell us how she grew up in the country back when there was a lot of racism. And that she was telling us how they put up with the white people messing with them. And how they had to obey there elders and how they talked were they are from. I believe she was trying to tell us how the had to respect everybody if they respected them or not.
I believe that the author want us to see how much things have changed over the years since she was a little girl. I believe what the author wanted to teach us a lesson in the story telling us to be nice to everyone even if they are mean to you. And that you should listen to you elders when they tell you to do something.

I believe that it is important to read about moments in other people’s life because it lets you know what other people have been through. It also lets you know what and what not to do if you get in the same situation as them. It has been times in my life that if someone else read about it they would learn a lot from my mistakes and it could help them in the future.
